Blu-ray movie discs to outsell DVDs in 2011

Blu-ray may have won the high-def format war, but it still has a tough fight in its hands which is to get customers to actually ditch the standard DVD format. And though adoption has been rather slow for the format – thanks in part to the still relatively high price tag for equipment – Sony claims Blu-ray discs could outsell DVDs in three year’s time.

According to Tim Meade, Asia Pacific vice president for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, global sales of Blu-ray discs are expected to increase from 9 percent in 2007 to 25 percent by the end of this year. The rise in sales will be fueled by the introduction of more discs and lower-priced Blu-ray players and should reach a ratio of roughly 40:60 compared to DVD in 2010.

Blu-ray would supposedly take the lead a year later. Sony is the main proponent of the high-def format, so their big claims are to be expected. If they are accurate, however, Blu-ray would still have to face another growing threat: digital distribution. Of course, digital distribution still can’t match the video and sound quality offerings of a disc-based medium but, hopefully with the proper infrastructure and bandwidth, in a few years it will.

Apply For Mumbai Junior Colleges Online

I am sure this story will give relief to nearly half a million students and their parents who are now in the process of applying for Junior Colleges in Maharashtra. Maharashtra State Government, Office of Deputy Director of Education has just announced the launch of a new website which will allow potential college candidates to apply online for their junior college admission.

Students who are seeking admission to first year junior college in Maharashtra can register at MumbaiApplication.com and select the college they want to apply for. After selecting the college, they can pay the application fees online (or via mobile using ZipCash).

MumbaiApplication.com has not been officially launched yet though. You can still register to the site and play around with it to get yourself familiar with the site. Once MumbaiApplication.com will go live, your previous data will be lost and you will have to register again.

According to Tech2, initially, the online admission facility has been made available to all the 500-plus colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai and students can apply from anywhere. The manual admission process will still be available to those who doen't have access to internet and don't know how to use computers.

The site is developed using Drupal Content Management System. I think Department of Education is also playing around with the system to make sure they understand the software before they officially launch the site.

Top Tips to increase bittorent download Speed

Top Tips to increase bittorent download Speed

The latest file sharing protocol bittorrent has modified everything when it comes to file sharing. It is a nice platform for downloading large files. Sharing of files include movies, iso images and MP3 songs. Bittorent is mainly famous for illegal file sharing .
The Bittorrent system can be slow at times due to heavy traffic. so let us tweak bittorrent sharing program a little bit.
There are a lot of different bittorrent clients that you can download. I think the best are BitCommet and uTorrent.

Here is a few tips to speed up uTorrent Client. Similar can be implemented on any other torrent clients ,which you are using.

Step 1: Increase TCP connections

You need to increase the number of TCP connections that are allowed at max.Windows XP Service Pack 2 came with the number of allowed open connections to 10. This is to stop any piece of spyware(in our case bittorent client even) from totally taking over your internet connection. TCP connection allowed should be 50 for optimal performance. The best way to increase the maximum number of connections is to apply patch that is available at www.lvllord.de. A nice way to fix this is to download this patch .

The little tweak to the torrent client works great in certain times. If you’re using uTorrent go to Options menu then Preferences. In the Preferences go the Advanced Options. In the advanced options change the net.max_halfopen connections to 80. In the same section change the max half open tcp connections to 80. Once your done click on OK and you are all set. This tweak will let the maximum TCP connection available for the bittorrent client. Now start downloading you’ll realize a little difference in the download speed. Port forwarding technique is more effective than this.

A third point of interest is that some “windows updates” revert your tweaked tcp connections back to 10. So it’s wise to check this every now and then. You can check this by going to (in windows xp) Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > System… Look for event 4226 (sort by event).
If there are a lot of daily occurences it’s likely that the max amount of half-open tcp connections was set back to 10. Or you’re infected with some nasty spyware…

Step 2:Torrent Client Configuration
In order to apply these tips you must know your maximum up- and download speed. You can test your bandwidth over here (stop all download activity while testing).

Settings 1-4 can be found in the options, settings or preference tab of most torrent clients.

1. Maximum upload speed

Probably the most important setting there is. Your connection is (sort of) like a pipeline, if you use you maximum upload speed there’s not enough space left for the files you are downloading. So you have to cap your upload speed.

Use the following formula to determine your optimal upload speed…

80% of your maximum upload speed

so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal upload rate is 32kB/s

But keep seeding!

POWER POINT TRICKS

•Setting the Default Text Style To change the style of the text that appears when you type things that aren't the title or the slide body, do the following:Choose the first layout option and click in the title box. From the Format menu, select Font. Make all the changes that you want there, and then check default for new objects. Next click OK. From that point on, new text will be created in that font style and size.
•Changing A Design TemplateTo change the design template for the title or slide body objects, on the menu select View…Title or Slide Master. Click the body of the slide then right click the slide and choose Group…Ungroup. Delete any part of the design you desire. Then right click and choose Group…Regroup. When completed choose the slide sorter view mode from the lower left-corner of the screen.
•Using More than One GuideIf you like using guides, but wish there were more, you can create additional Guides by simply holding down the CTRL key while dragging on an existing Guide. This will create a new guide. To get rid of guides, just drag them off the edge of the slide.
•Creating Pages with Slides and Descriptive TextIf you want to create printable pages that have notes or descriptive text associated each slide, PowerPoint has a feature designed to do just this called Notes Pages, or Speaker's Notes (depending on which version you're using). To view the Notes page for any slide, go to the View menu and select Notes Pages. You will see an image of your slide there, and a placeholder for adding your script, notes, or any other text you wish. You can cut-and-paste text from Word here if you like. To print these pages, bring up the Print dialog, and at the bottom of the dialog where it says "Print What:", select Notes Pages. These pages were originally designed to be used as audience hand outs. To return to the normal view click the Slide View button in the lower right corner.
•Building Presentations for Distribution to Others When making a PowerPoint presentation that will be distributed to other people, there are some important things to watch out for that will cause problems:1. Stick with the fonts that come installed with Windows; Fancy fonts that appear on your machine will cause problems if everyone else doesn't have them.2. Avoid embedding sounds and videos: these will not go from Mac to Windows gracefully, and you have to be very careful about how you insert the files in order to get them to "travel" properly. See the FAQ section for more information on this.3. Design the presentation on the lowest version that you think might be in use. For example, if you want the presentation to be able to be viewed by Mac users (who may not have upgraded to the latest version), you will want to design your presentation in PowerPoint 4.0. If you don't have PowerPoint 4, then you'll want to save your presentation in the lowest format you think people will have. For cross-platform distribution, 4.0 is still your safest bet; for Windows-only distribution, save to PowerPoint 95. When you down-rev save, be prepared for some visual changes in your file--the previous version may not support some of the features you've put in, so be sure to sanity check your file on several different machines and versions BEFORE you distribute it!
•Easily Changing from Caps to Lower Case (or Vice Versa)If you have text that is in the wrong case, select the text, and then click Shift+F3 until it changes to the case style that you like. Clicking Shift+F3 toggles the text case between ALL CAPS, lower case, and Initial Capital styles. This useful trick works with Word too!
•Nudging ObjectsYou can use the arrow keys to move objects very small distances. This is a big win for those laptop users who no longer have mice. Select the object, then use your arrow keys. Each press of the key will move the object on "grid unit" (1/12th of an inch, don't ask why); if you hold down the Ctrl key while nudging, or if you have the grid turned off, you can move the objects one pixel at a time.
•Saving Across Multiple DiskettesSince PowerPoint 7.0 (the one in Office 95, also known as PowerPoint '95) you have the option to save large files over multiple diskettes. From the File menu, select Pack and Go. This wizard will compress your PowerPoint presentation and copy the file onto as many floppies as are necessary.
•Draw A Line Perfectly Horizontal or VerticalDepress the Shift key while dragging to create your line.
•Draw A Perfect SquareDepress the Shift key while dragging to create your square.
•Draw A Perfect Circle Depress the Shift key while dragging to create your circle.
•Quickly Access the Slide Master Click on the Slide View icon (at the top-left of the screen), while depressing the Shift key.
•Create A New Design Template Click on the File drop down menu, select New and then select the Design Template tab. Select an existing design template that most closely matches what you wish to achieve. Make changes to the slide master as required. Then save the file as a template using the SaveAs command to save the file as a dot file.
•Preview A Presentation in Black and White Click on View…Black and White.
•Send to the Back or Bring Forward an Object Right click on the object, select order, and choose the desired command.
•Insert the Copyright Symbol To insert the copyright © symbol, enter (c) To insert the Trademark ™ symbol enter (tm) To insert the registered ® symbol enter (r)
•Saving Shows Save your presentation as a ‘PowerPoint Show’ (.pps) and your presentation will open straight into screenshow mode. To change a .pps back to a presentation for editing, locate the file name, right click the file name, choose rename, and change the .pps extension to .ppt. A warning about instability will appear, but no harm will be done to the presentation.
•Jumping to Screens In show mode type a number then hit ‘enter’ to go to straight to that screen i.e. ’1’ to go back to the 1st screen. This is particularly useful if you have a large show for multiple speakers - just make a note of the slide number where each one starts - and during rehearsal, simply keying the number and pressing enter, jumps you straight to the right place. Quick and efficient.
•Hiding Screens In the show mode you can hide your first (or any other) screen until you are ready to start by pressing ‘B’’ to blackout the screen or (‘W’ to ‘whiteout’ the screen) then press the ‘B’ or ‘W’ again to reveal the screen when you are ready.
•To Go to the First Slide or Last Slide Ctrl+Home will take you to the first slide in a presentation, Ctrl+End will take you to the last slide.
•Toolbar TipsYou can customize your toolbar to contain buttons for tasks that you routinely conduct. Click View…Toolbars…Customize. Click the Commands Tab and choose the desired task. Click and drag the accompanying icon to your preferred location in the toolbar. Close the customize window.
•Setting up the ShowTo set up the presentation to run continuously, click Slide Show…Set Up Show. Check ‘loop continuously until ESC’ and click OK.To set up the presentation with timed settings on each slide, click Slide Show…Rehearse Timings. As each slide appears a rehearsal clock will appear in the upper left corner. When the desired time has expired click the mouse to progress to the next slide. After viewing the entire show you will be asked if you wish to save the rehearsed time. Click Yes.To record your own narration for the presentation click Slide Show…Record Narration.
•Printing the PresentationYou have many options for printing your presentation. Click File…Print. You can choose to print it as slides or handouts and choose how many will fit on a page, print it as a Notes Page, or print it in the outline view. Other options include to print it in Grayscale, Pure Black and White, or with Animations. You can also choose to print only specific slide numbers or print all slides.
•Scrolling CreditsScrolling text can be an effective means of ending or beginning a presentation. Click the desired text. When the Custom Animation text box opens, click the Effects tab. Protecting against Viruses and Worms

Protecting against Viruses and Worms
The Internet is a great place to be, but it's also dangerous. Virus and worms are deadly cretins that can have adverse effects on your computer and your productivity. Here are a few pointers to help you prevent the invasion of virus and worms on your system.
•Invest in a good anti-virus software. There are many to choose from. The popular one being, Norton's Anti-virus, Dr. Solomon's Anti-virus and McAffee.
•Frequently download the updates to the anti-virus you are using
•Backup important data on a regular basis.
•Never open email attachments from unknown sources.
•Never download and install .exe files from personal web sites. For example, if you want a free software, it's better to download it from the developer's web site or from known and respected directories such as Tucows than from a web site of an individual.
•Restrain yourself from downloading MicroSoft Office files from unfamiliar sites.
•Increase the security level of your browser. For Internet Explorer version 4, go to View - Internet Options. Click on the Security tab and choose High or Medium security level.
•Download and install updates for browsers and email programs you use. The MicroSoft site has a tool that automatically checks which security features your system needs.
•Keep yourself updated with annoucements on newly found virus and worms.Extreme precaution
•Ruthlessly delete emails with attachments.
•Disable receiving emails in html format.

Example: Art domain:quia.com oNumber Range searches the span of two numbers, separated by two periods, with no spaces Example: digital camera $250..$450

oLanguage searches specify which language you would like your results returned in.

oDate searches restrict the results to the past three, six, or twelve months. oOccurrences searches specify where your search terms occur on the page - anywhere on the page, in the title, or in the URL.

Google Calculator To use Google's built-in calculator function, simply enter the calculation you'd like done into the search box and hit the Enter key or click on the Google Search button. The calculator can solve math problems involving basic arithmetic, more complicated math, units of measure and conversions, and physical constants.

Google DefinitionsTo see a definition for a word or phrase, simply type the word "define," then a space, and then the word(s) you want defined. If Google has seen a definition for the word or phrase on the Web, it will retrieve that information and display it at the top of your search results.

File Types If you prefer to see a particular set of results with a specific file type (for example, PDF links), simply type filetype:[extension] (for example, filetype:pdf) within the search box along with your search term(s). I'm Feeling Lucky The "I'm Feeling Lucky™" button takes you directly to the first web page Google returned for your query. You will not see the other search results at all. An "I'm Feeling Lucky" search means you spend less time searching for web pages and more time looking at them.

Remove Virus From Nokia Devices

If this happens, or any virus has attacked your mobile, its inevitable u do something wrong, Now what to do you simply have to format your phone. To format the phone, press *#7370#, then enter the lock code, which is the sec code of the phone. NOTE: battery must be charged, else if format is disrupted by low battery, consequences will be disastrous .I heard the code *#7780# works too, pretty much the same i think. For 6600 users, to format the fone, there's an alternative way. Press and hold <3>, <*>, and the buttons, then power on fone, keep holding on the 3 buttons, till u come to a format screen. this method ONLY works on 6600, and need not enter the sec code. BUT sec code will be reset to default 12345.

CHANGING DOS BACKGROUND

The value DefaultColor controls the foreground and background colors used in command prompt windows. It has a default value of 0, for standard white text on a black background.
CHANGING DOS BACKGROUND
Open your registry (press win+r and type regedit , hit enter )
goto

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor]

u'll find "DefaultColor"

You can replace it's value with a two-digit hexadecimal number, in which the first digit selects a background color and the second a foreground color. The hexadecimal codes are:

Hexadecimal value Color
0 Black
1 Blue
2 Green
3 Aqua
4 Red
5 Purple
6 Yellow
7 White
8 Gray
9 Light Blue
A Light Green
B Light Aqua
C Light Red
D Light Purple
E Light Yellow
F Bright White

A value of F0, for example, would give black text on a white background, and 1E would yield yellow text on a blue background.

The change should take effect the next time you open a console window.

block webSites without any Softwares

block webSites without any Softwares !!__________________________________________________________
Steps

1] Browse C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
2] Find the file named "HOSTS"
3] Open it in notepad
4] Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com , and that site will no longer be accessable.
5] Done!

example :

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com

- www.orkut.com is now unaccessable

For every site after that you want to add, just add "1" to the last number in the internal ip (127.0.0.2) and then the addy like before.

IE:
127.0.0.3 www.yahoo.com
127.0.0.4 www.msn.com
127.0.0.5 www.google.com

This also works with banner sites, just find the host name of the server with the banners and do the same thing with that addy.

Hoep this small tutorial could keep you going in simple way of blocking websites
